Content and copyright

This is a translation provided for convenience. In case of any discrepancy, the Spanish version prevails.
This policy explains how we select and display content on CheckNews, how we correct errors, and how a rights holder can ask us to remove content.
How stories are formed
CheckNews automatically reads the front pages and public feeds of news outlets in many countries. It groups articles about the same event into a story and ranks them by how many different outlets cover them and how recent they are. Each story’s status (breaking, developing, updating or quiet) is calculated automatically from those same signals. There is no editorial line: we do not hand-pick which stories to feature.
What we show of each article
The headline, the outlet’s name, the country, the language, the publication date and time, the link to the original article and, when the outlet provides one, a reduced image. To read the full article you always have to go to the outlet that published it.
Corrections
Because the process is automatic, an article sometimes ends up in the wrong story, with the wrong country or category, or with a poorly translated headline. If you spot an error, let us know through Complaints by choosing “Story correction” and include the link or number of the story (shown as #number).
Content removal and copyright
If you hold the rights to content that appears on CheckNews (for example, an image or a headline) and want us to remove it, send your request through Complaints by choosing “Content removal or copyright”, or write to [email protected]. Include:
- Your contact details and, if you act on behalf of another person or company, on whose behalf.
- The link to the story on CheckNews or its number.
- Exactly which content you want removed and why you are its rights holder.
- A statement that the information is truthful and that you act in good faith.
We review every request and, where appropriate, remove the content or image within 5 business days. We will let you know our decision by email. If an outlet asks us to stop showing its headlines, we will stop reading its feed.
Included outlets
If you are a news outlet and want us to include your feed, propose it through Add your outlet. If you would rather we remove it, write to us through Complaints by choosing “Other”.
